Boys Enjoy Fast Start To Season (cont..)
The team’s success has been dependent on balanced scoring. Juniors Eddie Messbarger, Alex Herrera, and Andrew Briseno have consistently scored in double digits, while sophomore Andy Lopez has provided consistent scoring coming off the bench.
Guard play has been excellent as expected, considering the depth the team has at the position. The big question mark coming into the season, however, was the limited depth at the center position. A dominating presence inside by both Leo Mendez and Louie Garcia has all but silenced this concern.
“We’ve definitely got out to a great start,” boy’s coach Todd Barcholtz said. “This kind of start to a season really fills up the team with confidence.”
So what exactly is there to improve on for the Eagles? Well, the team must still prove that they can beat both teams from Harlingen, teams that have provided problems in the past. Harlingen High has rolled through the first part of its season, while Harlingen South may have the best player in the Valley with senior Nick Garcia. If Hanna can find a way to matchup with these two teams, then there’s really nothing stopping the Eagles from rolling through 32-5A and grabbing a district title.
