Defense lineman Evan Frausto also had something to say about the recent success of his team.
“The defense is doing a great job of putting pressure on the quarterback and our corners and safeties are doing a great job of making plays on the ball,” Frausto said. “And the linebackers are doing a great job of plugging up holes and making plays.”
But maybe the biggest part of this winning streak is not how the team has played, but who the team has played. Veterans Memorial has grown to become our heated rival over the past couple years, and the trash talk leading up to the game was intense. Needless to say, it felt great for players and fans alike to get this win.
“For students, on Twitter and stuff, all we’ve been hearing is how Veterans is going to beat us,” senior Kyle Valdez said, a student at the game. “It really felt great to see us maybe silence our critics for a while.”
“It felt great cheering on our team to a win!” added senior Jessica Michaels, another student. “This was definitely the biggest game of the year. “
Wide-receiver Richard Martinez also voiced his opinion on proving people wrong. He referred to an article in the Brownsville Herald that had Hanna getting blown out.
“If the Herald wants to bet against us every week, fine,” Martinez said. “They’ll be broke by the end of the year.”
Up next Hanna has the struggling Porter Cowboys. If things keep looking the way they’re looking, this winning streak will keep on going.

Getting to Know Richard Martinez (cont..)
YH: What are your plans for the future?
RM: I want to be able to become a Physical Therapist, and, God willing, get a scholarship for football.
YH: How do you feel about the move from quarterback to receiver?
RM: It was a big move, but I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do. And besides, everyone knows I can play QB. Coach can put me wherever, I’ll go out there game night and still make those big plays. It shows my versatility.
YH: How do you think we compare with the teams in 32-5A?
RM: I know we are the “Top Dogs”, no doubt about it.
YH: Who will win the district title this year?
RM: All my money is on the Hanna Golden Eagles, we have the talent and skill to beat every opponent.
YH: Who is your biggest rival and why?
RM: Veterans, I can’t really explain why here, but let’s just say that when we play it just won’t be about winning.
YH: Let’s get to know you outside of football. What do you do in your spare time?
RM: I play GTA V all day, every day.
YH: Favorite Hangout? And with who?
RM: The arroyo with my bros: Speed Kills, Karlo, Am Breezy, The Fred, A-Aron, Mr. Valdez, A-Rob, and my football team.
